Keep Calm and Mawrter On

What are little Bryn Mawr girls made of? Cigarettes butts and coffee cups, Beer and ice and all that’s vice, Oral cards and ancient bards, Nescafe and hoops in May —- and Books!

A Call to Action - Cosign a Letter to BMC Administration, Calling for the Inclusion of Trans Women

Reblogging again to say that (especially if you’re a Bryn Mawr student, alumn, or prospective student), you can call the following numbers and make your voice heard:

Bryn Mawr College’s President Office: 610-526-5156
Bryn Mawr College’s Admission Office: 610-526-5152

This is the what I said:

I am a proud Bryn Mawr graduate of the class of 2012. I’ve always talked Bryn Mawr up to people. I hope it won’t let me down now.

“I am calling to urge Bryn Mawr College to adopt a written policy explicitly encouraging and welcoming trans women and people outside the gender binary to apply for admission, like Mills College and Mount Holyoke College have released comprehensive policies clarifying their stances on the admission of transgender students.

Not having a written policy isn’t an acceptable option. If it worked, Bryn Mawr would have transwomen already.

The Bryn Mawr community deserves a clear and intentional admissions policy protecting all prospective students.

This is the sample script provided by the people organizing the Call in:

“I am calling to urge Bryn Mawr College to adopt a written policy explicitly encouraging and welcoming trans women and people outside the gender binary to apply for admission. In the past two weeks, Mills College and Mount Holyoke College have released comprehensive policies clarifying their stances on the admission of transgender students.

By avoiding a well-defined policy that allows for greater inclusivity, Bryn Mawr College is complicit in a history of oppression against trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming individuals.

The Bryn Mawr community deserves a clear and intentional admissions policy protecting all prospective students. Without creating a new comprehensive admissions policy, in addition to campus protection and support for trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming students and applicants, Bryn Mawr cannot continue to claim to be a women’s college or an advocate for gender equality.”

Reblogging to add that many people are calling today and tomorrow to show their support. Someone on fb (idk if they’re comfortable w me posting their name, so I’m not, but if they want credit please let me know?) posted some numbers and a script that it might help to follow! I’m copy-pasting it below. Please note that you should call THESE EXTENSIONS, rather than the general college number, which goes to the information services help desk and would make it difficult for them (student workers) to do their jobs.
